Dial Scales That We Have Not Reproduced |
|
|
Thousands of radio receivers were
produced during the golden era of vintage tube radios. We are working to
produce replacement glass style dial scales for many of those radios.
While we'd like to be able to produce dial scales for all of them, we
cannot afford to do so in all cases. When we receive a request for us to create another reproduction dial scale, we have to determine several things before we will proceed. 1. Determine if the radio is an American radio. We will only produce dial scales for American made radios. Please don't ask us to produce dial scales for radios made outside of the USA. 2. Determine if the original design was done on flat glass. Our designs are only done on flat glass. They may be one or two sided designs. 3. We have to research each radio to determine if enough of them are still around so that we can recover our development costs over a reasonable period of time. If you have knowledge that the chassis in your radio was used in several different models, that might improve a dial scale's chance of being produced. 4. We also need to determine if we can get hold of an original dial scale to work from. We will only proceed with a design if we can work from an original dial scale. We've learned from past experience that working from a scanned image is usually a waste of everyone's time and money. We might locate a radio in our warehouse that has the needed dial scale or we may need the customer to provide us with their dial scale. In many cases we can work from a cracked or flaking dial scale as long as we can determine somehow what the graphics looked like. 5. We have found that we can NOT reproduce dial scales that had mirrored finishes. The EPA has shut down the little shops that might have once been able to help us create limited quantities of these dials. We have not found a suitable way of producing these mirrored dials. |

| Estimated Date (ie, 3/11/02) |
If a date is actually listed, this is our best guess as to when we hope to have a dial scale that we can ship to our customers if our first-pass effort is successful. The process of producing these glass style dial scales is not an exact science and sometimes requires us to refine the "recipe" before we have a product that we are satisfied with. The "recipe" involves many factors including the development of accurate artwork, the mixing of the inks to achieve the desired colors, the precise silk screening to achieve the single/multi-colored graphics and the cutting/drilling of the glass style dial. A problem in anyone of those areas could mean that we will miss our Estimated Availability Date and can involve one or more extra manufacturing cycles before we are satisfied with the finished product. |
| NOW | Dial scales that we indicate are NOW available have reached the point where we feel we have a good "recipe" for them and usually have in stock. |
| No Listing or Date Shown |
We don't have information on file for this dial scale. However, we might very well be able to produce this artwork if we have the model you need in our extensive warehouse or if you have a cracked or flaking dial scale that we could work from. Contact Us if you don't see your model listed. Antique American made radios only please! We are now producing scales for some of the more popular American broadcast/shortwave, amateur radio and hi-fidelity receivers. |
| Out of Stock | We had a problem for several years with finding a way of producing a quality dial scale that our customers could afford. We have finally decided to produce dials that were originally done on glass on acrylic plastic. It will likely take us a while to replenish our inventory and switch our many dial designs over to acrylic plastic. |
