"THE
CORNELL WW-II FOXHOLE RADIO KIT"
In World War II, GI's wanted to listen to
news, entertainment and the "all-important" baseball
scores. However tube radios were often either banned outright or
not practical. Many GI's were radio hobbyists before the war and knew
that materials other than crystals could be used to detect radio waves -
including a blue razor blade! In September 1945 a young Lieutenant
Paul M. Cornell, wrote an article about a foxhole radio he used in the
Pacific and this kit is named after him. A sensitive ceramic
earphone is included with the kit along with a pre-drilled clear pine
board and all parts, screws, washers, sandpaper and wire. The PAL Single
Edged Blue Razor Blade detector is just like the blades that many
soldiers used. The easy-to-understand instructions were designed
for beginners. No soldering is required. An outside antenna is required
for optimum performance.
